MONSONIA CRASSICAULIS

This member of the Geraniaceae family was given this name by Focke Albers in 1996. It is found in Namibia and western South Africa, growing in sand or another well drained soil with little water and lots of sun. The stems can grow up to four centimetres in diameter and 25 centimetres long. The flowers are pale yellow. The genera is named for Lady Ann Monson, 18th century plant collector on the Cape of Good Hope and in Bengal. The species name means 'thick-stemmed'. This is a winter-grower. Large plant from Namibia.
