This member of the Euphorbiaceae family was described by Susan Carter in 1987. It is found in Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Burundi, Zaire and Zambia. It grows in sand or another well drained soil with some water and some to lots of sun. The caudex can grow to six centimetres in diameter, the plant can grow up to 15 centimetres in height. The flowers are white to pale pink.

The genera name from the Greek monos; 'one' and -aden; 'gland', referring to the solitary gland.
