This member of the Euphorbiaceae family was described by Peter René Oscar Bally in 1959. It is found in Angola, Malawi, southern Tanzania and Zambia, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some to lots of sun. The caudex can grow to five centimetres in diameter, the whole plant up to six centimetres height - ten with the caudex exposed. The flowers are white to light pink and green.
The genera name from the Greek monos; 'one' and -aden; 'gland', referring to the solitary gland.
The species name means 'looking like Orobanche ' for the similarity of the flowering stems.
