This member of the Euphorbiaceae family was described by Eileen Adelaide Bruce in 1940. It is found in Tanzania, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some sun. The caudex can grow to eight centimetres in diameter, the whole plant up to 1,5 meters height. The flowers are dark pink and greenish.

The genera name from the Greek monos; 'one' and -aden; 'gland', referring to the solitary gland. The species name means 'magnificent' for the flowers. The flowers by K.K. Agrawal, Llifle.com.
