This member of the Nyctaginaceae family was described by Carl Linnaeus in 1753. It's from the central part of America, but has been spread around the world. The flowers are from white over yellow and pink to red. A well-drained garden-soil, some water and sun. It can't stand frost. The caudex and the seeds are poisonous, and will give diarrhoea.

The genera name is Latin for 'marvellous'.

The species name means 'from Jalapa' in Veracruz, Mexico. The fruit. The seeds. Yellow flowering bush. The caudex of my plant Red flowering bush.
