MASSONIA CITRINA

This member of the Hyacinthaceae family was given this name by Michael Pinter, Gerfried Deutsch, Ute Müller-Doblies and Dietrich Müller-Doblies in 2013. It is found in a little area near Rooihoogte Pass, Western Cape; South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to two centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to two centimetres in height, although the two leaves can reach eight centimetres in length. The flowers are yellow. The genera name after Francis Masson, 1741-1805, a British horticulturist, collecting plants in South Africa. The species name from Latin citrinus; 'lemon-coloured' after the bright-lemon-coloured filaments and style. *) Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016, Hyacinthaceae is now part of the Asparagaceae.
