LEDEBOURIA CORIACEA

This member of the Hyacinthaceae family was given this name by Stephanus Venter in 2009. It is found in Cape Province; South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The bulb can grow to six centimetres, the plant raise up to ten centimetres, but the leaves are aliened with the ground. The flowers are bluish purple. The genera is named after Prof. Dr. Carl F. von Ledebour, 1785-1851, a German-Estonian botanist. The species name means 'leathery'. *) Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016, Hyacinthaceae is now part of the Asparagaceae. Photo of the flower by Grootscholten.
