This member of the Hyacinthaceae family was given this name by Nicolaus Joseph von Jacquin in 1843. It is found in southern South Africa, growing in sand or other well drained soil with some water and some to lots of sun. The bulb is three centimetres, the leaves lay flat on the ground while the inflorescence can reach 25 centimetres. Despite the name, is wary from green tipped white over pink, purple, maroon to blue.
The genera name is in honour of the Swiss botanist Prof. Werner de Lachenal (Warnerus de la Chenal)1739-1800. The species name means 'one coloured'. *) Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016, Hyacinthaceae is now part of the Asparagaceae. It will flower in the real early spring.
