This member of the Hyacinthaceae family was described by Nicolaas Joseph von Jacquin in 1797. It is found in southern South Africa, growing in sand or other well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The bulb will grow to three centimetres in diameter, the leaves to 20 centimetres long. The flowers are pink. It turns out Nicolaas Joseph von Jacquin have described and named this plant twice. As it have been a bit hard to find the year of publishing, it have lived with the latest name - which is incorrect.
The genera name is in honour of the Swiss botanist Prof. Werner de Lachenal (Warnerus de la Chenal)1739-1800. The species name means 'red'. *) Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016, Hyacinthaceae is now part of the Asparagaceae.
