This member of the Hyacinthaceae* family was described by Nicolaas Joseph von Jacquin in 1790. It is found in southern South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The bulb will grow to 1,5 centimetres in diameter, the leaves to 15 centimetres in length. The flowers are white to pale pink.

The genera name is in honour of the Swiss botanist Prof. Werner de Lachenal (Warnerus de la Chenal)1739-1800. The species name means 'slightly spreading'. *) Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016, Hyacinthaceae is now part of the Asparagaceae.
