LACHENALIA NERVOSA

This member of the Hyacinthaceae family was given this name by John Bellenden Ker Gawler in 1812. It is found in the coastal Cape Province in South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots sun. The caudex can grow to six centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to four centimetres in height, although the leaves are 14 centimetres long. The flowers are white with reddish markings.

The genera name is in honour of the Swiss botanist Prof. Werner de Lachenal (Warnerus de la Chenal)1739-1800. The species name means 'conspicuous veins'. *) Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016, Hyacinthaceae is now part of the Asparagaceae.
