LACHENALIA ARBUTHNOTIAE

This member of the Hyacinthaceae family was given this name by Winsome Fanny Barker in 1984. It is found in the Cape Province in South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some to lots of sun. The bulb will grow to two and a half centimetre, the leaves reach ten centimetres high while the pale yellow inflorescences are up to 35 centimetres. They turn reddish by age.

The genera name is in honour of the Swiss botanist Prof. Werner de Lachenal (Warnerus de la Chenal), 1739-1800. The species name for Miss Isobel A. Arbuthnot, 1870-1963, an Irish immigrant to South Africa and herbarium assistant. *)Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016, Hyacinthaceae is now part of the Asparagaceae.

This plant will flower in the real early spring.
