It is found in the Cape Province in South Africa, Lesotho and Namibia, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some sun. The caudex can reach 30 centimetres in diameter, the vines two meters length. The flowers are yellow.

The genera name from Greek kedrostis, 'white Bryony', the ancient name of a scrambling cucurbit. The species name as is originates from the Cape (of South Africa).
