This member of the Juncaceae family was described by Carl Linnaeus in 1753. It's found all over the temperate world, growing in acid or polluted soil with lots of water and sun. The bulb get five centimetres, the hollow leaves up to one meter. The flowers are brown to yellow, and it can also be reproduced by dividing the bulbs. The Latin name effusus means 'let out' as the flowers emerges from the leaves. The species name means 'pouring forth, loosely spreadin. They can live for up to sixty years, usually in acid soil. It need rather high humidity!
