This member of the Isoetaceae family was given this name by Niel T. Luebke in 1992. It is only found in the south-eastern U.S.A., growing in swamp and along rivers in a rich peat with plenty of water and some sun. The caudex can grow to one and a half centimetre, the leaves to fifteen centimetres length.
The genera name means 'all the same year round'. The species name from Carolina, where it is found. Wild plants by Adiamond, Powo.science.kew.org.
