HYMENODICTYON KAOKOENSIS

This member of the Rubiaceae family was given this name by Wessel Swanepoel and Ernst Jacobus Van Jaarsveld, in 2020. It is only found in the mountains along the Kunene River in the Kaokoveld Centre of Endemism, north-western Namibia, but might eventually be found in southern Angola as well. It is growing in a well drained soil with clay, sand and quarts and not that much water water but lots of sun. The stem can grow to 15 centimetres in diameter, the entire plant from two to five metres in height. The flowers are purple-brown.

The genera name from Hymeno; 'membrane', and refers to the thin wing around each seed and dictyon meaning 'reticulate pattern' or 'network'.
