The caudex can grow to three or even seven centimetres in diameter, the entire plant from 24 to 55 centimetres in height. The flowers are white. The genera name after Greek hydnon meaning 'tuber' and phyton meaning 'plant', after the swollen branches. The species is named in honour of Christian Puff, 1949-2013, a professor of botany in Vienna. Hydnophyttnae KEY. Photo of a large caudex by Stone Jaguar, Myrmecodia.invisionzone.com.
