HUSZIA OCTOPETALA

This member of the Begoniaceae family was given this name by Johann Friedrich Klotzsch in 1854. Somehow, the genera Begonia seems to be preferred. It is found in Ecuador and Peru, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some sun. The caudex can grow to four centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 60 centimetres in height. The flowers are white. The genera is named in honour of the natural scientist, friend of Göthe and the custody of the scientific collections at Brüx in Bohemia; Carl Husz, by Wilhelm Gerhard Walpers and Carl Müller in 1857 in Annales Botanices Systematicae.

The species name; octopetala derives from the Greek octo and - petalon, referring to the eight petals of the flower. Wild plant in Peru by Pierre-Olivier Combelles.
