This member of the Sterculiaceae* family was given this name by André Joseph Guillaume Henri (Ahmad Jahja Goh Hartono) Kostermans in 1954. It is found in the western Madagascar, growing in well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The stem will grow up to 40 centimetres in diameter and 20 meters high. It tend to be a little too slim by age... The flowers are red. The genus is named for Saint Hildegard of Bingen due to her contributions to herbal medicine. The species name for the red flowers.
