This member of the Berberidaceae family was given this name by Arne Strid in 2009. It is found in southern Greece, growing in a well drained limestone soil with some water and some sun. The corm can grow to three centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to twelve centimetres in height. The flowers are golden yellow.

The genera name from the Greek gymnos; 'naked' and Latin sperma; 'seed', referring to the unripe seeds which are exposed when the membranous pericarp splits

The species name after Peloponnese; the peninsular, making up half of Greece. A caudex from Botany.cz.
