It is found in south-western South Africa, growing in a sandy soil with not that much water water but lots of sun. The caudex can grow to 1,5 centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to five or even ten centimetres in height. The flowers are white to pinkish.

The genera name from Greek gethyon, 'bulb'. The species is named after the linear leaves. This is a winter-grower. A pinkish flower by Nicola van Berkel, Wikimedia.org. A large wild plant by Alan Horstmann, Ispotnature.org.
