This member of the Iridaceae family was given this name by Friedrich Wilhelm Klatt in 1882. It is found in Calvinia in western South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun for the leaves to curl. The caudex can grow to one centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to five centimetres in height. The flowers are bright yellow.
