This member of the Euphorbiaceae family was given this name by Émile Auguste Joseph De Wildeman in 1908. It is found in Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Gabon and Zaïre, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The stem can grow to fifteen centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 100 centimetres in height. The flowers are greenish-yellow. The genera is named after Euphorbos, the Greek physician of King Juba II of Numidia. The species is named after Adolphe Sapin, 1869-1914, a French botanist, collecting plants in central Africa.
