EUPHORBIA RAMENA

This member of the Euphorbiaceae family was given this name by Volker Buddensiek and Alfred Razafindratsira in 2015. It is found in outside Antisiranana in the northern Madagascar, growing in grit, sand or an other real well drained soil with some water and some to lots of sun. The caudex can grow to fifteen centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 45 centimetres in height. The flowers are greenish yellow.

The genera name; Euphorbia dates back to the first century BC, where King Juba II of Mauritania used it in a reference to his doctor, Euphorbos, and that name was kept as a generic name by Carl von Linnaeus. The species name might reefer to either to the red bristle-like hairs growing in the upper part of the shoots or the area is is found in: The "Red Tsingys". Ramena is a Madagascan word for "red". This is a winter-grower, and should be keep rather warm at all time.
