This member of the Euphorbiaceae family was described by Pierre L. Boiteau in 1941. It is found in Falaise de L'Ankarana, Western Madagascar, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some sun. The flowers are bright red. It can grow to eight centimetres thick and 35 centimetres high.

The genera name; Euphorbia dates back to the first century BC, where King Juba II of Mauritania used it in a reference to his doctor, Euphorbos, and that name was kept as a generic name by Carl von Linnaeus. The species name indicates it look like Pachypodiums. A wild plant from Palkowitschia.cz.
