This member of the Euphorbiaceae family was given this name by Walter Bally and Susan Carter in 1967. It is found in Hargeisa in northern Somalai, growing in a well drained limestone soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow to five centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to five centimetres in height - and higher in culture. The flowers are yellow to deep orange. The genera is named after Euphorbos, the Greek physician of King Juba II of Numidia. The species is named means ' to plunge into' as it sits deep in the soil.
