EUPHORBIA GILLETTII

This member of the Euphorbiaceae family was given this name by Peter René Oscar Bally and Susan Carter in 1977. It is found in the north-western Somalia, growing in a well drained soil like grit with some water and some to lots of sun. The swollen roots can grow to five centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 20 centimetres in height. The flowers are yellow.

The genera name; Euphorbia dates back to the first century BC, where King Juba II of Mauritania used it in a reference to his doctor, Euphorbos, and that name was kept as a generic name by Carl von Linnaeus. The species name in honour of the English botanist Jan Bevington Gillett,1911-1995.
