This member of the Euphorbiaceae family was described by Leslie Charles Leach in 1973. It is found in Zaire and Zambia, growing in a well drained soul with some water and some sun. The root can grow to eight centimetres in diameter, the branches up to fifteen centimetres long. The flowers are yellow.

The genera name; Euphorbia dates back to the first century BC, where King Juba II of Mauritania used it in a reference to his doctor, Euphorbos, and that name was kept as a generic name by Carl von Linnaeus. The species name is named after Dennys Basil Fanshawe,1915- 1993, a British botanist with specialist knowledge of the forests of Guyana and Zambia.
