EUPHORBIA CRASSIPES

This member of the Euphorbiaceae family was given this name by Hermann Wilhelm Rudolf Marloth in 1909. It is found in the Western Cape and Cape Province of South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with little to some water and lots of sun. The central caudex can grow to ten centimetres, the whole plant up to 20 centimetres. The flowers are green with a white centre.

The genera name; Euphorbia dates back to the first century BC, where King Juba II of Mauritania used it in a reference to his doctor, Euphorbos, and that name was kept as a generic name by Carl von Linnaeus. The species name from Latin; crassus; 'thick' and Latin -pedes; 'foot' for the swollen stem.
