EUPHORBIA ANKARENSIS

This member og the Euphorbiaceae family was given this name by Pierre L. Boiteau in 1942.

It is found in Falaise de L'Ankarana, North-Western Madagascar, growing in black humus on limestone escarpment. It’s an unbranched stem specie, with silver white hairs on both side of the leaves. The stem can grow to four centimetres in diameter, the plant up to 70 centimetres in height. The flowers are greenish inside to rose outside with red margin.

The genera name; Euphorbia dates back to the first century BC, where King Juba II of Mauritania used it in a reference to his doctor, Euphorbos, and that name was kept as a generic name by Carl von Linnaeus. The species name after the town of I'Ankara. Photo by: Ferdinand Poilodan.
