This member of the Orchidaceae family was given this name by Victor Samuel Summerhayes in 1958. It is found in central and southern Africa, growing in swampy rich soil with lots of water and some to lots of sun. The plant can grow to 200 centimetres with a flower stalk that can reach 200 centimetres, full of yellow flowers. The bulbs can grow to 3,5 centimetres in diameter.
The genera name means 'good or beautiful plume'. The species name as it originates from Angola.
