EUCROSIA EUCROSIOIDES

This member of the Amaryllidaceae family was given this name by Ferdinand Albin Pax in 1887. It is found in south-western Ecuador and northern Peru, growing in a well drained but rather rich soil with some water and some sun. The caudex can grow to four centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 25 centimetres in height. The flowers are orange to red.

The name is derived from the Greek eu, 'beautiful', and krossos, 'a fringe', referring to the long stamens. The species name indicate it look like a Eucrosia! Well, William Herbert thought it was a Callipsyche that looked like a Eucrosia.
