EUCROSIA BICOLOR

This member of the Amaryllidaceae family was given this name by Ker Gawler and John Bellendenin 1817. It is found in Ecuador and Peru, growing in a well drained but rich soil with quite some water and some to lots of sun. The caudex can grow to 4,5 centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 20 centimetres in height, 50 centimetres with the flowers, which are pale red and yellow.

The name is derived from the Greek eu, 'beautiful', and krossos, 'a fringe', referring to the long stamens. The species name indicate is have two colours. Photo by Nhu Nguyen, Pacificbulbsociety.org.
