EUCOMIS ZAMBESIACA

This member of the Hyacinthaceae family was given this name by John Gilbert Baker in 1886. It is found in Malawi, South Africa and Zimbabwe, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some to lots of sun. The bulb can grow to six centimetres in diameter, the leaves reach 20 centimetres and the flowers 60 centimetres.

The species name means 'having-fair-foliage'. The genera name means it originates from the Zambezi River basin, the fourth largest river basin in Africa. *) Accordantly to the latest taxonomic system; APG IV 2016, Hyacinthaceae is now part of the Asparagaceae
