This member of the Fabaceae family was described by Curt Polycarp Joachim Sprengel in 1926. It is found in southern Africa, growing in a well-drained soil with little water and lots of sun. It will rise form 1,5 to 3,5 meters with a base of 20 centimetres, and a lot of scarlet flowers. It can be reproduced both by seeds and cuttings.

The genera name from Greek; eryhros; 'red' for the mostly red flowers. The species name after Sir Abraham Hume, student of the botanist J.E. Smith. The inflorescence.
