This member of the Cycadaceae family was given this name by David John de Laubenfels in 1998. It is found in central Vietnam and eastern Laos, growing in rich or a well drained soil with some to lots of water and little to some sun. The caudex will slowly evolve to a 30 centimetre, with a 15-30 centimetre thick and 45-60 centimetre high trunk. The leaves grow to 2,4 meters. Both the male and the female cones are yellow, and besides seeds it can be reproduced by offsets. The genera from Latin; epi; 'on' and cycas from Greek kyklos: 'circle' referring to the rounded tubers. The species is n amed after W Micholitz,1854-1932, who made the type collections.
