ENTADA LEPTOSTACHYA

This member of the Meliaceae family was first given this name by Thomas Archibald Sprague in 1910 and it is found in eastern Africa. The flowers are pale green, the fruits hard and 20 centimetres long (wooden bananas). It will raise to 30 meters, and the stem can grow to two metres in diameter.

The genera name from Greek entos; 'within', Greek andro; 'male' and Greek phragma; 'schreen, fence, partition' for the united filaments which produces an urceolate tube. The species name means 'tailed', from cauda. A plant with one adult and one juvenile branch. Got some large seeds from Ahlen, Germany in 2003.
