This member of the Zamiaceae family was given this name by Émile Auguste J. De Wildeman in 1903. It is found in Angola and DR Congo along the Kwango river, growing in a well drained soil with quite some water and some to lots of sun. The caudex can grow to 100 centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to 15 meters in height. The cones are brownish.
