DUDLEYA HASSEI

This member of the Crassulaceae family was given this name by Reid Venable Moran in 1957. It is found on Santa Catalina Island; south-western USA, growing in a well drained soil like grit with some water and some to lots of sun. The caudex can grow to four centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to fifteen centimetres in height. The flowers are white. The genera honours Professor William R. Dudley, 1849-1911, a US-American botanist at Standford University. The specific epithet honours Hermann Edward Hasse, 1836-1915, a botanist and medical doctor who studied California mosses and lichens. The fruits by Stan Shebs, Calscape.org.
