This member of the Dracaenaceae family was described by Carl Linnaeus in 1762 and given this name by him in 1767. It is found on The Canary Islands, Madeira and Morocco, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. It can grow to 20 meters in height and 1,5 meters in diameter, given 500 - 1000 years. I have read in other places it should be slow growing - it is fare from my experience! The flowers are crème coloured.
The genera name from Latin; drago; a female dragon. The species name is 'dragon' again.
