DORSTENIA BROWNII

This member of the Moraceae family was described by Alfred Barton Rendle in 1915. It is found in central Africa, growing in a well drained soul with little to some water and some sun. It can grow to three centimetres in diameter and 20 or even 50 centimetres height. The flowers are dark brown. The genera is named after Theodor Dorsten, 16th century German botanist and medical professor at Marburg. The species is named after a Brown, but is it Robert Brown, 1773-1858, a Scottish botanist and paleobotanist, working in Australia? Or more likely Robert Brown, 1842-1895, a Scottish scientist, explorer, and author.
