This member of the Moraceae family was described by Friedrich Martin Josef Welwitsch in 1869. It is found in Angola, Cameroun, Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Sudan Tanzania, Uganda, Zaire and Zimbabwe, growing in a well drained but rich soil with some water and little to some sun. The caudex can grow up to twelve centimetres, the branches up to 50 centimetres. The flowers are green and brown. The genera is named after Theodor Dorsten, 16th century German botanist and medical professor at Marburg. The species is named the area it is found in: Benguel in Angola.
