This member of the Dioscoreaceae family was given this name by John Gilbert Baker in 1889. It is found in South Africa, growing in the forests in a rich but well drained soil with some water and little to some sun. The caudex can grow to 30 centimetres and the vines can reach five meter. The flowers are greenish yellow. Dioscorea is named after Pedianos Dioscorides, a Greek physician if the 1st century A.D. The species name after Walter Mundt, 1853-1927, a botanist - who did have a "t" in his name. This is a winter grower.
