This member of the Zamiaceae family was given this name by Paolo De Luca and Sergio Sabato in 1979. It is found in the Oaxaca and Puebla states of Mexico, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some to lots of sun in between 1800 and 2400 metres height. The stem can grow to 20 or even 30 centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to three metres in height. The cones are greyish brown.
The genera name from the Greek dis 'twice' and oon 'egg'; refers to the paired seeds.
