DELONIX DECARYI

This member of the Fabaceae family was given this name by René Paul Raymond Capuron in 1968. It is from Madagascar, getting from three to ten meters high and 80 centimetres in diameter. The large flowers are white to apricot-yellow, and it can only be reproduced by seeds and perhaps cuttings?

The genera name from Greek delos; 'evident' or 'conspicious' and Greek onyx; 'claw' for the long claw of the petals. The species is named after Raymond Decary, 20th century plant collector. Former a Caesalpiniaceae. Now, it's a sub-family to the Fabaceae: Caesalpinioideae. Photo: Courtesy of Missouri Botanical Garden.
