This member of the Vitaceae family was given this name by Jacoba Johanna Maria Van der Merwe in 1971. It is found in north-eastern South Africa, growing in a well drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex can grow large, the entire plant to 130 centimetres in height. The flowers are cream to yellow.
