This member of the Primulaceae family was given this name by Mats Ingmar Thulin and Ahmed Mumin Warfa in 1989. It is found in the south-eastern Somali Republic, growing in a well drained soil with some water and some sun. The caudex can grow to six centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to eight centimetres in height. The flowers are pink to purple.

The genera name from Greek kyklos: 'circle' referring to the rounded tubers. The species name after the country it is found in. This is a winter-grower.
