This member of the Primulaceae family was given this name by Philip Miller in 1768. It is found in Austria, Czechoslovakia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Switzerland, Yugoslavia and has been introduced to Russia. It is growing in a rich soil with some water and some sun. The caudex can grow to six centimetres in diameter, the entire plant to ten centimetres in height. The flowers are deep pink.
