CYCLAMEN CILICIUM

This member of the Primulaceae family was given this name by Pierre Edmond Boissier and Theodor Heinrich Hermann von Heldreich in 1849. It is found in the dry forests of the Taurus Mountains of southern Anatolia, Turkey. It grows in a rather rich but well drained soil with some water during the winter and none at summer time. The caudex can grow to seven centimetres, the flowers are from white to pink, and occurs in the late autumn, before the leaves. The genera name from Greek kyklos: 'circle' referring to the rounded tubers. The species name, as it originates from from Cilicia, a region of southern Asia Minor. This is a winter grower.
