This member of the Cycadaceae family was described by Carl Peter Thunberg in 1782. It is found in Japan, growing in drained soil with some water and lots of sun. The caudex will slowly evolve to a 30 centimetre thick stem, 2,5 meters high. Both the male and the female cones are brown, and besides seeds it can be reproduced by offsets.
The genera name from Greek kyklos: 'circle' referring to the rounded tubers. The species name means 'curled back', in reference to the leaves. The two centimetre large nut. A female cone I found in Uruguay, early stage. The more mature cone with ovules. Some Cycas sp. in Australia. No idea.
